Sustainable Business Solutions, Inc. is pleased to present The 2004 Aspen Green Building Conference on October 6-8 in Snowmass Village.

Businesses and organizations within the Aspen / Roaring Fork Valley are recognized for leadership in sustainable resort operations, green building initiatives, and progressive community planning.

Aspen Skiing Company, the City of Aspen, Pitkin County, the Rocky Mountain Institute, CORE and other local organizations lead through innovative green building and energy efficient programs, including the Aspen Efficient Building Program (AEBP) and the Renewable Energy Mitigation Program (REMP).

• The AEB program provides incentives for energy efficiency and the purchase of recycled and recyclable materials, and mandates construction recycling.
• REMP encourages energy efficiency through a “pay-for-excess” policy, charging owners for homes in excess of 5,000 square feet, and for exceeding energy budgets.
• The City of Aspen receives 57% of its electricity from renewable sources, such as wind or hydroelectric, and offers free public transit and parking for hybrid cars.
• Aspen Skiing Company launched the ski industry’s first micro-hydro energy plant, which uses snow-melt running through snowmaking pipes to produce energy.

Actions speak volumes about commitment and community investment. The Aspen Green Building Conference provides access to a growing network of governmental, non-profit and for-profit organizations all working to promote resource efficiency locally - from planning through construction, eventual demolition and disposal. Surrounded by Colorado’s dramatic and inspiring peaks, the Aspen Green Building Conference provides the chance for green building professionals, planners, and involved citizens to network and learn first-hand about the Aspen model, while learning from national experts about a broad range of green building topics.

Greening Our ConferencE

Sustainable Business Solutions strives to reduce the size of our environmental footprint during the Aspen Green Building Conference. Where possible we use paperless technology to communicate, and when paper is used, we double side on 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Please let us know your ideas for further reducing our footprint!

Our location partner Snowmass Club, part of the family of Aspen Skiing Company, is the recipient of the 2004 American Hotel and Lodging Association Stars of the Industry Enviro-Management Award. The property is currently seeking gold LEED certification and its renovations, when completed, will make the property 63% more energy efficient than code requires. The Aspen Skiing Company promotes a philosophy of continual environmental betterment through habitat protection and enhancement, energy and water efficiency, green development, waste management, recycling or alternative transportation.
